…it’s time to start something new and trust in the magic of beginnings.

Every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end. Decades on the west coast, in the same job, rusting a little more every ‘winter’, Dennis and I had both had enough so we gathered up all of our courage, quit our old lives, and moved here to begin anew. And boy did we. I love change, I thrive on it. There’s nothing like a good adventure with a dose of uncertainty to get the blood pumping and the imagination imagining. Little did I know that from this beginning we would play a part in many more beginnings for strangers who would become guests and friends.

When I first began this endeavor, I struggled with whom I wanted my audience to be. Should I appeal to the ski crowd seeing as we live right next to Sun Peaks Resort, perhaps smaller families would enjoy this space? It didn’t take long for me to realize that the place was creating itself and love was going to be the focus, I was just along for the ride. Forget the murphy bed in the den should there be need for extra sleeping space, forget the larger table for four that took up most of the kitchenette/dining area, forget the bigger sauna and hot tub. This place wanted to magnify the beauty of small. Couples, that was my audience. A romantic spot to celebrate anniversaries, engagements, marriages, birthdays, childless weekends, or days off…couples will always find a reason to celebrate love. We had chosen this place for the privacy it afforded us and our guests, unlike being in the heart of Sun Peaks, and that was what we would build this new beginning on.

I have the pleasure of meeting people at their happiest, zero grumpiness, zero anger, nothing but smiles. Seriously. This is my idea of absolute paradise. We have had the honor of being chosen as the perfect place for a few young men to propose to their loves in hopes of a new beginning (one had carried the ring around with him for 3 months, waiting for the perfect time), for newlyweds beginning their lives together, celebrating the beginning of another trip around the sun, celebrations of another year of love and partnership. I wonder if any of the new beginnings have involved beginning a new life, that would be the icing on my cake.

Beginnings surround us from the moment we open our eyes each day and can take us in any direction we choose to go. A new thought can become a plan, a new project can flourish into a business, a new hiking trail may become a much loved reprieve for years to come. This day is the beginning of anything you want…
